How to choose the perfect Christmas tree for the festive season

Choosing the right Christmas tree for home is easy, but when it comes to making a statement, spreading festive cheer and filling a larger space over the holidays, choosing a Christmas tree might need a little more thought.

What are we talking about when we talk about a “larger space”?

We’re glad you asked! Shopping centers, malls and outlet centers, public squares, city streets, airports, railway stations and hotel lobbies are just some examples of where big really can be better when it comes to Christmas trees.

Not a one-size fits-all approach

Although we love offering useful advice when it comes to trees and festive lighting, the reality is that every space is different and what makes visitors smile delightedly in one shopping center might have a completely different effect in another.

Here are a few things to consider when opting for a large, stand-out tree:

  • Do you want to choose a natural or artificial tree?
  • What is the scale of your space?
  • How will a large tree affect the flow of people through your space?
  • Do you have a festive theme in mind and how will the tree “fit” into that theme?
  • Does the tree need to be more than a tree? For example, do you want the lower part of the tree to function as a wrapping point or a walk-through experience?
  • Should the tree be interactive?
  • Will there be a switch-on event and what part will the tree play?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, our tree and lighting team can guide you through the myriad of things to consider, but for now, here are some of the many different ways a large tree can turn heads.

But not all large spaces need large trees

Bigger isn’t always better. In fact, sometimes it makes sense to have lots of smaller trees combined with other festive motifs to fill a space and to direct visitor flow.

And some spaces can simply work with the trees they have

If you already have beautiful natural trees in your space, the best thing to do might be to use them as they are and decorate them for the season. You can create a magical effect for the holidays and you might just find that the glittering atmosphere is one that works all year round, too!
