Almada Forum is one of the biggest shopping center in Portugal. It is a massive 78.815 m2 in size and contains more than 250 shops and restaurants, including several flagship stores.
Almada Forum wanted to transform their center into a magical space for the festive season, but given the dimensions of the center, they needed to combine individual decorative installations at regular points throughout the center with elegant lighting and greenery that would form the central theme for the center as a whole. In addition, the festive decorative lighting would need to form a stunning backdrop to the activities planned over the festive season, all of which related to music.
MK Illumination assessed the space and their winning solution proposed to fill Almada Forum with a festive atmosphere, be consistent throughout the center, and that would complement the architecture of the building. They recommended a mix of warm white light, greenery and luscious gloss and matt golden baubles to complement the existing color-scheme, make visitors feel welcome and wanted, and of course, reinforce the sleek, elegant lines of the structure.
Selected supporting columns throughout the center were decorated with draping lights that fell in straight lines from top to bottom. On each level of the center, atrium balconies were decorated with golden baubles and twinkling lights embedded in greenery, as were the ceilings of walkways and the sides of each escalator. String lights adorned special architectural features in uneven cascades, bringing icicles to mind.
Strategically-placed trees were likewise decorated with string lights and baubles. Clusters of 3-dimensional stars hung at varying heights from the ceilings, and the façade was simply but tastefully decorated with ice-lights and snowflake motifs.
Almada Forum was bathed in a warm, inviting glow throughout the Christmas season, with festive decorative lighting that filled the center from top to bottom, inside and out, to welcome visitors to the center. The lighting became the cornerstone of their festive decoration and their festive event campaigns, and they were able to build grottos and stages for their musical events into the center, building on the existing theme to create a cohesive visual and festive experience for visitors.
