Each year in November, Vancouver’s annual Lumiere Light Festival returns to inspire residents and locals with light and artistic expression.

In 2019, MK Illumination Canada West worked with Vancouver’s Westend BIA (Business Improvement Association) to create a new light sculpture.

Standing at 24 feet tall, Davie is a bright, inquisitive, and playful grizzly bear. He joins a series of other nature-inspired artworks at English Bay that pay homage to British Columbia’s wilderness. Sadly, in real life, grizzlies are no longer residents of Vancouver, but Davie was created in part to shine a light on the story of British Columbia’s grizzly bears.

This is a great example of how it’s possible to create light installations that are not only beautiful to look at, but that have local relevance and that make a positive difference.
