Essen Light Weeks Germany

Each year, the city of Essen hosts the remarkable “Essener Lichtwochen” or “Light Weeks” that start a good month before Christmas and get people in the mood for the upcoming festive season.

In 2019, the Light Weeks started on November 8th and over 100,000 light points from MK Illumination helped to transform the city into an unforgettable, light-filled experience.

Although chandeliers typically illuminate ballrooms, in Essen they also lit up the promenade in the upper Kettwiger Straße, delighting visitors with their DualColor technology. The municipal theatre, which is one of the oldest in the Ruhr area, sported a brand new illuminated exterior façade  with its simple, straight-line design that provided an interesting contrast with high-detail deer light sculptures. On the Willy-Brandt-Platz visitors could enjoy the large Walk Through Christmas tree that provided a colorful experience thanks to its Dual Colour Technology. Throughout the city, enchanting light sculptures and 2D motifs appears to put visitors of all ages in the festive mood.

As always, MK Illumination’s light contributions supported Essen’s potential in the area of innovation, creativity and tourism underline the dramaturgy and identity of its public spaces, which continues to be an important part of the city’s light-goals.
