The City of Deventer

In 2018 the city center of Deventer unveiled its brand new festive lighting and Christmas decor, much to the delight of onlookers. Some eye-catchers included the seven-meter-high Scrooge, a larger-than-life reindeer, a huge illuminated Christmas ball, a book at the library, and a light sculpture of a teddy bear. Baskets of light were placed along Keizerstraat to form a trail of light that connected the station and the Brink.

Trees on the Brink, Nieuwe Markt, Grote Kerkhof, Lamme van Dieseplein, Broederenplein and Grote Poot were all draped with strings of warm white light to keep Christmas spirits high, and made it easy for city dwellers to walk through the city and enjoy the illuminated  art works on foot.

The city’s new lighting will be in place for the next 5 years, and a light-sharing system will ensure that each year will include new light sculptures for visitors to enjoy.
