The initial design concept, envisioned by James Glancy, aimed to create a detailed, symmetrical branch decoration that gracefully arched overhead as visitors strolled along Sloane Street. Inspired by the elegant style of William Morris, the design featured stylized leaves forming a sophisticated silhouette.
MK Illumination took this concept and transformed it into a practical yet aesthetically pleasing reality. They enhanced the design by creating sculptural aluminum branch structures, illuminated with warm white string lights throughout. Additional lighting was provided by festoon 'berries' clustered within the branches, and contour lights highlighting the main structure. Reflective gold foil leaves added daytime appeal, as their gentle movement in the breeze created a constant, shimmering effect in bright sunlight, ensuring the decorations captivated even when unlit.
Each branch motif consisted of 14 pieces, with overall dimensions of 19 meters wide by 5 meters high. The scheme featured 14 such motifs across the length of Sloane Street. Similar, albeit smaller, branches adorned the trees of Sloane Square, carrying the theme through the area. The entire scheme was further enhanced with warm white string lighting in every living tree along Sloane Street and Sloane Square, totaling 3,600 sets of string lights. At ground level, the scheme was completed with 80 potted trees in gold pots and a series of 150 golden spheres placed throughout the planters, creating a magical and enchanting atmosphere for all who visit.
