GOOD TO KNOW

Biobased Material

“Biobased“ specifies the source of materials. It refers to materials that are made from renewable resources and consist at least partially of biological materials. Examples include fibres, sugars, microorganisms, or proteins. MK Illumination use biobased material in the form of wood fibres, as well as biobased content according to the mass balance approach. Biobased products can provide benefits across the economy, society, and the environment.

Mass Balance Approach

The mass balance approach is one of the ways that we can incorporate recycled and renewable feedstock into a complex chemical production chain, speeding up our transition away from fossil raw materials without compromising the quality of our products.

Think of it like green electricity: consumers buy renewable energy from their provider, but the energy from the grid is a „mixed product“. Why? Because the energy in the grid combines energy from renewal and other sources.

By feeding biogenic raw materials directly into the initial production stages of chemical plants, even small quantities of renewable raw materials can be used to manufacture almost any product. This allows industry to incrementally transition to using sustainable feedstocks, without the need to set up separate production lines for sustainable products. Recycled Material

Recycling involves collecting and processing waste materials to transform them into new products, benefiting communities, the economy, and the environment.

PECF - Certification

PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes) is an international organisation that promotes responsible forest management and sustainable wood products.

PECF certification affirms that forests are managed according to rigorous environmental, social, and economic standards. That forest based products, from the source to the finished product, come from sustainably and climate-friendly managed forests. For more information, see: www.pefc.org.
